Size and Design

Pros:

  • "No more bulky ice blocks taking up half the lunch box so the meat on the sandwich doesn't spoil!"
  • "These are made out of hard plastic so they stay flat of course...I'd tried the soft ice packs but I could never get all 3 to freeze perfectly flat each time."
  • "They are the perfect size for different arrangements within my L.L. Bean, soft-sided lunchbox."
  • "These packs fit perfectly in any standard lunch box/bag."
  • "Great space saver! My daughter has one of those slimmer cloth lunch boxes that come with the backpack, and one of these fits perfectly with it."
  • "They are thin and slide seamlessly into lunchboxes in addition to containers, drinks, etc."
  • "Like the small size and the fact that there’re square. Easy to fit in any insulated bag."

Cons:

  • "They don't stay cold very long. I've used these almost every day for a month or so, in a variety of insulated bags; they lose their chill within 3 or 4 hours."
  • "They were melted and room temp within 4 hours."
  • "Two of these items have leaked. The wall thickness of the plastic is extremely thin."
  • "These were terrible...maybe the quality if the gel inside? Barely kept food in my insulated lunchbox after two hours."
  • "At least one of the ice packs leaked the blue ice substitute out on to multiple other items in the shipping box."
  • "These look fine but they don’t seem to stay cold long. Maybe it’s because they’re slim?"
  • "They don’t stay cold for very long."

Durability and Quality

Pros:

  • "We have two packs of Cool Coolers, and both appear like new after two months and many freeze-defrost cycles."
  • "These new ice packs I ordered are much nicer than my old ones. My old ones sweat a lot and got everything wet. These new ones stay pretty dry, and non-breakable."
  • "After four years their functionality still remains."
  • "These ice packs are indestructible; I haven't had one break or leak yet."
  • "They don't leak and are very durable."
  • "They are great quality and from a safety standpoint, I am not afraid of them opening and oozing the liquid out."
  • "They've never leaked, are easy to clean, and seem super durable, since they are still going strong after being refrozen and tossed around in lunch boxes 5 times a week."

Cons:

  • "But as they melt, they release a lot of condensation."
  • "The soft mushy ones tend to develop leaks over time and I had to put them in ziplock bags to keep them going longer. I love these and glad I found them."
  • "Very disappointed. The blue is liquid and there are big areas where it does not expand when freezing and so not as much coverage as I want."
  • "One of the ice packs leaked/busted on the first day of use in my child's lunch box."
  • "They all have cracked and leaked in the center circle."
  • "Do not buy these if you're looking for durability! After about 90 days of use, they start to leak along the seam."
  • "So these ice packs are useless."

Cooling Effectiveness

Pros:

  • "One of these in the lunch box, and everything is still nice and cold come lunch time 5-6 hours later."
  • "Keeps all food chilled, small enough to pack water and lunch with plenty of space remaining."
  • "These are the perfect size ice packs that don’t weigh down everything you’re carrying."
  • "I LOVE these. They take up so little space and I can even block in my food to keep it cold on all sides."
  • "Perfect, keeps my lunchbox cool all day under my desk for 8 hours."
  • "They stay cold for about 7 hours in my insulated bag."
  • "One will stay cold and keep my lunch frozen for about 6 to 8 hours in my insulated lunch box at work where the temperature is usually 72 degrees."

Cons:

  • "Not sure if it was that these are so thin they lost their frost and coolness within a few hours or what but....I probably wouldn't recommend if you need to keep your lunch cold for 3 hours or longer :("
  • "After that they quickly lose their cool and can't keep my already cold food from warming up."
  • "If you're looking for one that's only gonna last a couple of hours, this will be good for you but they're so thin that they melt pretty fast."
  • "Doesn't last for more than 2 hours and the outside temperature was only between 45 - 48 degrees."
  • "Within 2 hours these packs lost their chill."
  • "These don’t stay cold long enough. They lose their cooling effect at about 3 hours."
  • "Really disappointed in these. They only stay cold for about 4 hours."
