Music and Sound Quality

Pros:

  • "The music isn't annoying (some nice classical composers) and it kept my son's attention in the car."
  • "Love that it is classical music, he likes the William Tell overture piece, because it means it's time for horsey rides!"
  • "The musical choices carry all 3 of his favs: Beethoven, Vivaldi & Mozart."
  • "The music is great - very pleasant sounding and we love that it plays classical tunes."
  • "The music is very pleasant... each piece is artfully arranged and just the right duration."
  • "This toy has very good sound quality, and the songs are pleasant to listen to."
  • "This toy plays not too loud music that he can make play."

Cons:

  • "The sound is horrible though. Very tinny and annoying, sounds great when mashed into the plush carpet..."
  • "One of the tunes (the Turkish march) finishes in an abrupt way: after the last musical phrase, it plays a single note more (from the next phrase), which is a little disturbing."
  • "When the toy plays certain songs, it sounds like the speaker is buzzing/vibrating, so the whole song just sounds terrible."
  • "I really expected better quality from a Baby Einstein product."
  • "The tunes are by far the most calm and not as annoying as the others."
  • "The sound is muffled when it is on its back."
  • "I wish the music would be a little louder as the speaker is on the back of the toy, which is usually lying on the bed and gets muffled."

Design and Durability

Pros:

  • "The toy has two volume levels, and off option and is extremely durable."
  • "It's light weight, easy to clean, has an on and off switch as well as volume low and high."
  • "Our first one from six years ago recently turned up and it still works just fine."
  • "It is a sturdy toy too."
  • "It is certainly built for durability."
  • "This toy is pretty durable. It has been dropped and thrown a number of times already."
  • "The music box seems indestructible."

Cons:

  • "I would say it's not ideal for teething, as the beaded handle is pretty big for a little mouth."
  • "The first time my son held it, he hit his face with it."
  • "I think it's a bit clunky."
  • "The play button is covered by a piece of cardboard... this seems like a terrible design."
  • "The only thing that is a bit of a disappointment is the center button... the paper-y decal partially came off within the first two days of normal use... the blue note just wore off without much contact."
  • "Handle is not easy to grasp for younger babies because there are too many beads on it and they are large."
  • "The little sticker on the front completely wore off within a few months of us owning the radio."

Functionality and Ease of Use

Pros:

  • "Baby first started pushing the button at 4-1/2 months, & now at age 6 months he's a pro at pushing the button as much as he wants to hear music!"
  • "Our girl loves it because the button that plays music is easy for her to press, unlike other similar toys, with very hard buttons."
  • "Has adjustable volume for when you don’t want it to be too loud in public places."
  • "Giant easy to find play button."
  • "Very efficient product, calmed and contented my baby (3 months) almost instantly."
  • "It has a low and high volume control switch and an off switch."
  • "Button in the middle is easy to push."

Cons:

  • "I got round the fact that there is actually only one button (the big thing at the front), but a shuffle/repeat or continuous mode would have definitely made it more convenient."
  • "You have to kind of press on the middle part of the button for it to operate, so sometimes it won't play at his first few tries."
  • "First of all we couldn’t open the back where the batteries are so that we could replace them."
  • "The only button is designed to look like a hat switch but doesn't behave like one."
  • "Also the button needs to be pressed constantly there is no continuous play it plays one really short song and turns off."
  • "It took her a while to be able to hit the button on her own, but that is just a developmental issue."
  • "Overall, knowing the toy's shortcomings, we would not have purchased the toy even though it was cheap."

Value and Quality

Pros:

  • "Still worth the purchase. Especially good for the car, stroller, pediatrician's office, etc."
  • "Bought for our first son. He really liked it. Second son came around and he LOVES this toy."
  • "Very portable"
  • "Great price and lasts a long time."
  • "Inexpensive"
  • "Definitely worth the money."
  • "For the price, just buy it!"

Cons:

  • "Amazon should lower the price since the quality it used to have is no longer there."
  • "The lack of meaningful association between the lights and tones make this a 'mindless dazzle candy' distraction that inadvertently teaches babies that arrows mean nothing."
  • "The main downside is that a couple of the tunes seemed to have been badly cut (like in the middle of a note...) and are a bit short."
  • "Only negative comment: When we received it in the mail, the power button was in the on position, so the battery was dead as soon as it arrived."
  • "Unfortunately it only played 3 melodies, plus 2 where it played a few notes and then stopped."
  • "These devices are cheaply made and the two we have bought so far both stopped working all of a sudden after a few weeks."
  • "The manufactor has become greedy and gone very cheap on the quality this toy used to have."
