Design and Functionality
Pros:
- "The front wheels are oval giving the pup a wobbly 'walk' which kids love."
- "The tail is extremely fun and wobbly, yet sturdy."
- "It's colorful and cute. Children will love to walk the dog while hearing letter names."
- "It's super cute and you can even turn off the sound so it's not constantly making noise as the child pulls it around the house."
- "The tail is rubbery and seems like it will last well to pulling."
- "The different sized back wheels make the tail wag back and forth, and that seems to be the funniest thing my son has seen."
- "The AlphaPup itself is cute, colorful, durable and that makes it attractive to both kids and parents."
Cons:
- "The front wheels are oblong to make him wag his tail? Design wasn't thought out very well."
- "The leash is VERY short, and I get that they don't want kids strangling themselves but it kind of makes it pointless to even have the leash at all."
- "Also, it would have been nice if the extremely short walking cord had the ability to be extended at will, if need be."
- "The string was soooo short so my daughter cannot walk with it at all."
- "The biggest negative comment about this toy is that the lead / string to pull it along with is too short."
- "Pull string is too short and toy falls over every time; doesn't run well on its wheels."
- "The only problem is the leash is very short and the toy turns over when being pulled."
Educational Value
Pros:
- "I would highly recommend the LeapFrog Alphapup!"
- "It has the full alphabet on it, and although the buttons are tiny on the dog's back, it's fine for little fingers to push."
- "Good letter associations and cute toy."
- "These teach the letter names and sounds eg C says cccc (phonic sound) and gives words which start with the letter eg C - Car."
- "As a parent, I like that it teaches the proper sounds to words and then uses the words in sentences."
- "Leapfrogs AlphaPup Toy teaches the Alphabet and basic vocabulary skills."
- "It's a very good learning tool as it goes through that alphabet it really makes a 2 year old start to learn a lot of new letters and words."
Cons:
- "It really bugs me that the dog actually will not sing the abcs unless it is moving or the child is 'walking the dog.'"
- "The letter buttons never held his interest for long."
- "It's a cute toy, but kind of annoying in that it's one of those ABC brainwashing toys."
- "The reason I gave this toy four stars is because I think it should also say the sound the letter makes as well as the letter name."
- "This is a cute toy, but it literally did not get played with once by my 1 year old."
- "Very boring toy and the string isn’t long enough to do anything with."
- "I thought this will walk by itself with batteries on it."
Durability and Quality
Pros:
