Photography and Information Quality

Pros:

  • "Great photographs and just the right information on the animals."
  • "Each page is informative and covered from top to bottom in excellent photographs."
  • "This product has really great large pictures and history of the animals as well as their habits."
  • "The pictures are very vivid and the text flows nicely."
  • "In true National Geographic style, the pictures are breathtaking."
  • "Beautiful pictures and interesting facts about a wide variety of animals."
  • "The book has very clear high quality coloured pictures of the animals."

Cons:

  • "Checking both books carefully, I discovered my first book was printed in the US while the new one is printed in China. The pictures in the 2nd book don't have as good contrast as the first book."
  • "The layout is a bit cluttered for my taste, I think it can be distracting at places."
  • "I was disappointed with the layout and coloration. I had assumed that for small children, the layout would be clean and uncluttered."
  • "The print color/design is not perfect but the quality of the build of the book and the content are otherwise fine."
  • "I just wish there more animals in there rather than frogs and insects."
  • "But, I was disappointed that with all the animals in the world, they made three pages duplicates of animals that had already been on previous pages!"
  • "Not much writing about animals and it wasn't exciting after the first time we read it for my 5 years old."

Educational Value

Pros:

  • "This was a great introduction for my 2 and 3 year old grandchildren to the National Geographic world."
  • "Love this book for my two and half year old. We look at it every night and even I learn a lot from it."
  • "Grandson LOVES this book, VERY EDUCATIONAL and kept the 3 yr olds attention and had him asking questions."
  • "They have great information and are by far the best educational tools in my 5 year boy's library."
  • "The material and images are fascinating for even older kids (and adults reading them aloud!)"
  • "The tidbit facts are fun and mind-expanding for kids, not dry facts like books written years ago."
  • "This National Geographic KIDS book which can serve as an excellent introduction for children from ages 4-8 to the Animal Kingdom is far more than a mere picture book."

Cons:

  • "Missing elephants!? One of the reasons I bought this was thinking it would have elephants in the book."
  • "This kit was a waste of money. 'Tools' did not work for the project, barely any instructions, conflicting instructions between linked video and their info."
  • "I think kids more enjoy watching pictures of little baby animals, but not of the ugly wales, snakes, bugs... and etc."
  • "Published in USA, the book concentrates more on American animals that others. As a children's book, it certainly has large, attractive illustrations with little in the way of written descriptions."
  • "Very basic... I purchased this for my nephew's 5th birthday, but didn't give it to him, because it had hardly any information on animals."
  • "If you have younger kids, you will have to read it to them but they may not understand everything in most topics."
  • "The only reason that I won't give them five stars is because the pages come lose too easily."

Book Quality and Durability

Pros:

  • "The pages are high quality paper that won't tear easily making it so child friendly."
  • "Great book, exactly what we were looking for. High quality cover, photos, and pages."
  • "The product arrived on time and is of good quality."
  • "It's a strong hardback book with good sized writing for young ones."
  • "The book itself is super sturdy too."
  • "Study book and pages won't rip easily."
  • "It's a sturdy book so it should hold up to much use."

Cons:

  • "While my kids really enjoy when I read the contents of the book the binding is awful. The pages start to separate from the binding after very little usage."
  • "Beautiful book what a waste they didn’t invest in proper binding."
  • "Pages are just glued in, I don't even think this would hold the pages in to a book for adults and it certainly hasn't kept the pages in to our copy."
  • "Pages tore out & ripped easily, even with children sitting on our lap, we did and do a lot of repairs and now kids reject them."
  • "The only reason I’m giving four stars is because several of the pages came loose from the book almost immediately and the binding is very poor."
  • "Poor quality, binding not fixed correctly and pages are falling out. Extremely disappointed as my son was really excited about the book."
  • "The book is nice, but the binding of pages is so bad that you have to be super careful while turning the pages, otherwise they just come apart."
