Story and Character Development

Pros:

  • "Outstanding story, well-fleshed out characters and a big plus for those that love strong cowboys and strong backboned women."
  • "Absolutely loved the story but the material the book cover was made out of was VERY low quality."
  • "Nora Roberts has the ability to paint a scene so that you understand all the aspects going on."
  • "I really liked this book, but at the same time it had a serious creepiness to it."
  • "Every time I open a Nora Roberts novel I am transported to each place she writes about."
  • "Another weekend, where I couldn’t put the book down… the storyline had my heart pumping a great combination of romance and suspense."
  • "Exceptional story. I have yet to find another author who can paint such a picture with words."
  • "Loved reading this book, being there in Montana with this family. As always great character development."

Cons:

  • "The similarity of the names didn't help. I a!so felt there was a lot of filler that involved the managing of the ranch and horses that didn't add anything to the plot."
  • "Nora Roberts tried to tell two completely different stories in one book. That can work, but it didn't in this case."
  • "The opposite of a page turner. Well, I turned the pages so fast I didn’t read them just trying to get to the end to see 'who done it.'"
  • "Not enough action for me. A lot of scenes that really had nothing to do with the plot."
  • "Read Montana Sky by Nora Roberts. This is a terrible riff of that book, poorly hidden, terrible plot and very disappointing."
  • "This book was recommended for our book club, but I thought it was very shallow."
  • "I was surprised how thick this book is. This book starts out being dull in my opinion then somewhere around chapter 3 the book picks up then it back to being dull and boring again."
  • "I did start skipping pages towards the end of the book. to a predictable ending."

Writing Style

Pros:

  • "Nora Roberts not only deserves the reputation she has as an incredible writer, she just keeps getting better and better."
  • "Nora is such an excellent author I can't not read her. She does her research so well you feel that you are that character and in that place."
  • "She just keeps getting better."
  • "To me the best part of this book and her gift is that her female characters are so strong without making their men look weak."
  • "I always enjoy her ability to make you feel the characters are real."
  • "The settings are breathtaking, almost like you are right there. Couldn't put it down til I finished it."
  • "The characters really stood out. But the women in the novel stood out so vividly it was like viewing them on screen."
  • "Nora Roberts is a storyteller and. Once again, she hooked me."

Cons:

  • "I've become picky when choosing a BE book to read these days. The women were still either meek and mild pushover or do it all at once domineering type A personalities."
  • "It's been awhile since I've read a Nora Roberts book.I've mostly read the series books. This definitely had a different flow."
  • "The rest of the book was just downright boring."
  • "I had to force myself to keep reading this book hoping that it would improve."
  • "Same old same old- I knew as soon as the character was introduced who he was, what would happen and how it would end."
  • "If there had been a synopsis on the back of the book (instead of her photo), I would have never have picked it up."
  • "I know when’s she’s trying to lull me into a false sense of security. I know that the main characters aren’t going to get together til at least half way into the books."
  • "I read two-thirds of it, then the end to see if what I thought would happen did. It did."
