Ease of Use

Pros:

  • "These dyes are very easy to use but the colours are so weird!"
  • "These dyes are easy to use though not tested items in the wash yet!"
  • "It was actually quite an easy process, I had a bad bleach stain on a pair of sweatpants and I totally flipped the quality and I absolutely love them."
  • "I've dyed two white Ikea pillow cases used for my garden chairs and this product works well..."
  • "If you have zero experience doing any sort of sewing or crafting, this is pretty fool proof."
  • "Very easy to use."
  • "This dye is easy to use."

Cons:

  • "It was a little time consuming to stir the items to be dyed for 30 minutes, but it's necessary for the color to be consistent and not blotchy."
  • "The directions on the bottle aren't particularly detailed."
  • "This was the first time I've ever dyed anything and it was a bit of a hassle."
  • "You have to rinse the garment in cold water until the water runs clear, and that was too hard to do with the tongs."
  • "I will ruin everything it touches..... I followed the instructions on the bottle (cotton fabric), washed with hot water three separate times, and still the fabric bleeds the dye on to everything it touches, even when dry."
  • "The price here is ridiculous. $7.98 for an all purpose dye (not including shipping if you don't have Prime) with dubious results depending on your fabric is NOT worth it."
  • "I did attempt to use this on a Polyester based fabric...That WILL not work."

Color Quality and Consistency

Pros:

  • "The 100% nylon fabric took the color evenly and brilliantly."
  • "The color came out great and surprisingly even."
  • "The color is pretty."
  • "The colors always match what we order and always come out the way we desire...when you follow their directions."
  • "This is a very pretty pink, not quite as pale as on the bottle. I dyed a white jean jacket and the jacket is pink with white stitching."
  • "The color turned out rich and beautiful & I saw that someone posted a duvet they had died & yep! That’s the color, it’s not gray at all but a rich dark brown color which is not what I ordered or what the label claims to be which is odd … Thankfully I really like the color …."
  • "The color dyed my dress a pretty deep blue."

Cons:

  • "I went to buy this to dye my hoodie and after going through the instructions my hoodie was not dyed."
  • "First I tried getting tan/light brown using just a little of Rit Dark Brown, and could only get a weird color of purple."
  • "I let the material soak for over three hours and it came out pink."
  • "The color on the bottle was definitely a cooler purple with stronger blue undertones than red."
  • "I needed to dye a zipper (first mistake). Rit seems to be the standard but it took me three attempts to get the color that I wanted even though I used their recipe."
  • "I ordered dark brown but it is dark purple."
  • "All of the white shirts I dyed came out purple."

Value and Cost-Effectiveness

Pros:

  • "But $4 for another bottle of dye is better than $30 for a hoodie that I'd only wear to work."
  • "This is a good product. I am a notorious cheapskate and this is a good way to get a new summer or fall wardrobe without actually getting a new summer or fall wardrobe."
  • "You can dye quite a lot of light-medium weight fabric with just this small bottle, which can save you a lot of money on hard to find fabric colors."
  • "I bought this from my walmart (only $3)... I dyed all the pieces of the chair and it came out beautifully! I couldn't be more happy!!"
  • "Overall, this is a good product at a price that won't break the bank for most people."
  • "I use this brand of dye to refresh our jeans, pants, shorts and any solid color bottoms."
  • "These dyes have saved me money by allowing me to refresh clothes I wouldn't have worn again."

Cons:

  • "The dress did not even taint in the slightest, even with it being such a light color. Very disappointed & wasted an hour+ of my time :("
  • "Well...4 washes later, the color continues to bleed onto other clothes. I have 2 other shirts ruined so far and have resorted to washing the shirt alone with a Shout Color catcher."
  • "What color was gained started to fade with subsequent washes quite quickly."
  • "I am not sure why the price is so high. It's convenient, yes, but at double the price?"
  • "I saw that this product had a bunch of 5 star reviews so I decided to give it a try and ordered two bottles... I opened the one without wrap to see there was a hole in the top of the piece that you peel off as if somebody stabbed a pencil through it to use some of it."
  • "Was looking forward to dying some towels in a couple weeks with my daughter. A little disappointed that the dye has an expiration date of 11 days after delivery."
  • "My khaki pants are a disconcerting shade of salmon now..."
