Connectivity

Pros:

  • "Put the app on your phone, plug the camera in, wait for the blinking lights. Connect your phone wifi to the camera hotspot, click add new device on the app, put in your home wifi, done."
  • "The TP Link app is easy enough to use- it's apparently HomeKit compatible but I couldn't get it to work without a homekit compatible router."
  • "The app that comes with this thing is the strong point of this item because you get a good version for free (no subscriptions required)."
  • "This camera has excellent features. Picture is great. Night vision is great. Motion detection is great. Camera mobility is great."

Cons:

  • "The product would not connect to the WiFi as well as arrived late (11 days from purchase date)."
  • "The camera would be great if it could stay connected - but it randomly drops the wifi signal and then cannot reconnect."
  • "I wanted to replace my Wyze Pan cam because it's having issues. It says this 'works with Google'. Yeah, I can say 'hey google, show me the hall cam' but then the display is just blank."
  • "I got this camera to keep an eye on my cats when I'm out of town. My phone will never connect to the camera; I have to unplug it every day just so I can see the video."

Installation and Setup

Pros:

  • "Easy peasy to setup. Does what it came to do."
  • "I love this so much, I bought one for my elderly father in law. It is sensitive to movement and gives great pictures."
  • "I recently got my hands on this indoor camera, and let me tell you, it's a total game-changer! The accompanying app makes setup a breeze – it's a plug-and-play experience."
  • "I just installed a custom watercooling loop on my main computer at home, and I was getting ready to go out of town. The TP Link app is easy enough to use."

Cons:

  • "The only negative is that I would like to have a simpler way of installing it on the wall because you can’t drill it if you live in an apartment."
  • "The camera wouldn’t stop moving left to right motion. The reset button didn't work and the camera just went dead."
  • "The pan and tilt motors are a bit loud. But at this price range, you can’t ask for much."
  • "The biggest obstacle was setting up microSD card. Installed 3 different cards after formatting on computer to FAT 32 as directed. Always got message 'something wrong with sd card'."

Customer Service

Pros:

  • "I have other Tapo cameras that I’ve set up with no issues at all, so I wasn’t expecting to have issues getting this one set up."
  • "Amazon wonderfully gave me a full refund and told me to keep the item. It’s going into the trash either way- the return policy is as poor as the product."
  • "I purchased this camera about 8 months ago and set it up in place of a Samsung Smart Cam because I needed a camera with the swivel function."
  • "Overall, for less than 30 bucks you're getting a smart camera that works with your preferred smart assistant, takes crisp images in both day and low-light conditions."

Cons:

  • "Customer service is non-existent."
  • "After confirming my device was defective by making me do all the same troubleshooting that I attempted before reaching out they wanted to wait to receive my product before issuing a refund or sending out the replacement."
  • "I have ordered 3 of these cameras! They never stay online and constantly freeze to the point I purchased all new internet equipment! This ticks me off and I will review this product on every forum!"
  • "The app that comes with this thing is the strong point of this item because you get a good version for free (no subscriptions required)."

Price and Value

Pros:

  • "I love this so much, I bought one for my elderly father in law. It is sensitive to movement and gives great pictures. I also bought a memory chip to save some clips."
  • "For only $50, this is a great little camera. Since it supports HomeKit if your home is part of the Apple ecosystem you don't need anything else to be able to view and record."
  • "This cam was easy to set up and for 90% of the customer base, it will work just fine. The images it produces are of very high quality and it adds to HomeKit with no issues."
  • "TP Link does it again making the affordable pan and tilt camera. This camera offers so many features."

Cons:

  • "I bought this TAPO C200 around 5 months ago. Initially it was working fine. Then from one day to another it stopped working."
  • "This camera doesn’t continuously offer live stream, you have to keep clicking a message every 5 minutes to keep watching."
  • "Don't waist tour money. The saying is true 'you what you pay for' this camera is inexpensive and easy to setup. However, its made cheap as hell."
  • "Bought this on sale for $25. Figured for the price it wasn’t a huge loss if it sucked, and it does. The app itself constantly gets buggy."
