Cleaning and Polishing

Pros:

  • "I love it cause it cleans well and I don't have to worry about it scratches my glass door."
  • "Perfect for cleaning paint and glue off glass without scratching."
  • "This steel wool is great for polishing and buffing metal."
  • "I use these on all glass surfaces. I have never scratched ANY of them: windshields, stove tops, mirrors. They are perfect."
  • "This stuff really cleaned my shower doors, I have arthritis in my arms and was worried I’d have to use allot of force."
  • "I clean windows and mirrors with steel wool and they always come out streak free and smudge free. Cleaning windows and glass is faster than using paper towels and with better results."
  • "Used it to clean oxidation and hard water off of chrome and it was amazing."

Cons:

  • "Tried using the 0000 for burnishing an oil and wax wood finish and the stuff turned to dust. Worst steel wool I've used in 40 years of wood working."
  • "Unfortunately for us, it did not work and in fact, for the small spot we tried it on, seemed to scratch the surface further."
  • "This steel wool is terrible, I bought it to polish the windows on the car and while using it, it just crumbles apart. I have never experienced that with other steel wool. It really does not do a good job on the windows."
  • "I bought this as so many online sources said this would work for hard water spots on shower doors. They LIED! Soap scum maybe, but rubbing alcohol and a cloth melts that away with NO effort at all."
  • "Purchased for paint and stain projects, left behind dark prominent streaks of the material that imbedded into the finish and was unable to wipe off."
  • "I bought this to aid in cleaning and polishing a used exhaust that I purchased only to be disappointed and frustrated when it scratched the metal while using metal polish on the mufflers and exhaust tips."
  • "I used this steel wool which states it to use on chrome as other uses. The part about chrome isn't totally true, it left super fine scratches on many chrome pipes."

Value and Quality

Pros:

  • "These worked great for a variety of chores, but i am hesitant to use them around kitchen items."
  • "Its a little pricey so use only one piece and keep in a ziplock bag to keep it clean. Store the rest as this is Hard to Find."
  • "I needed a fine grade steel wool to use in my shop, for various projects I make. These appear to be of very good quality, are priced right and will serve my purposes."
  • "This is a much better value in super fine steel wool than the prepackaged units."
  • "I have purchased this item before and is a good price for a good product."
  • "I like that they include 3 grades in the package. I repurpose furniture and understand the importance of the different grades. I thought it was good that they printed it on the bag as well. Decent quality, good price. Would recommend."
  • "Same stuff I’d buy at Hardware or Home Improvement store…. But easy and fairly priced."

Cons:

  • "While this product is your average metal wool, I could have bought a better quality product for less money at my local hardware store."
  • "Came in a small package. The picture was exactly what it looks like. I have heavy water spot on my car windows. I did what the instructions said, with spray bottle with little bit of soapy water and scrub. It didn’t work at all. Not work the money."
  • "States 'Source USA' NOT!... I ordered USA made Homax Brand and received Rhodes from China! Packaging states: China. Enough Lies!"
  • "There are many different uses for this product, however, I bought this solely to use for Leather Luster to shine my boots. Just scrubbing a leather surface like those boots caused the wool to break into small pieces."
  • "The new product is less densely woven, the individual fibers are not as fine, and the new product falls apart very quickly."
  • "Overhyped product. I tested it on few surfaces. It is too soft to remove scratches and too harsh to polish mirror like surfaces. It will not remove scratches from mirror polished watch AND will add its own fine sanding marks."
  • "Bought this at Home Depot when I ran out of #3 course steel wool manufactured 25 years ago by The American Steel Wool Company... there's only half the wool here than there was previously."

Pest Control

Pros:

  • "Got this to block mice from getting into my garage. It worked well, filled the holes easily and mice couldn’t chew it."
  • "I bought this after it was recommended to us to keep mice out."
  • "I looked for sturdy steel wool to plug up some mouse holes around our pipes and this stuff does the trick."
  • "Bought if for my sisters trailer to keep the mice out. If caulking is added on installation, mice cannot get through it. I am very pleased. Works great for this application."
  • "We live in a crappy building, and everyone has a mouse problem- except us!... I bought this steel wool and some foam sealer and I haven't seen a single mouse in a very long time."
  • "I use these pads for finishing a surface prior to staining. Also use this gauge of steel wool to fill in around pipes that go to my crawl space from under all my sinks to keep the bugs and mice out."
  • "Bought this product as a deterrent for mice in an outside shed stuffing the steel wool between board cracks…. Works like a charm no mice."

Cons:

  • "However, it started rusting after a few days. A couple of days later it turned into dust and came off! For sure it cannot be used in a humid area or in area where it can come into contact with water."
  • "Do these work well? Absolutely. However, I bought them for scrubbing water marks off stainless steel, and found that they start rusting within a few days of their first use."
  • "The stable pads don’t have much use after a day because they begin to rust."
  • "It's no secret that you can plug holes in your flooring with steel wool, but steel wool can rust. Bronze wool won't, so use this instead."
  • "I didn't use gloves or protective eyewear when I cut and ripped apart the steel wool to stick in openings to block mice and rats from entering. WORKS GREAT!"
  • "It's okay, but does leave behind a lot of small fibers of bronze which you have to clean up after using it to polish/buff."
  • "But it leaves more particles than some other brands."
