Effectiveness

Pros:

  • "I have been using this on my hiking clothes for a year now. I have found no ticks and have only gotten mosquito bites a couple of times."
  • "This stuff works. It repels ticks, mosquitoes, chiggers, and a whole host of other biting insects."
  • "Before our backpacking trip I sprayed every recommended item down with permethrin: tent, clothes, backpacks, and hats. We went hiking in an area known for ticks and I wasn't taking any chances! I'm happy to announce...NO TICKS!"
  • "I've used permethrin for years and always found it to be effective. 100% effective."
  • "The liquid works well in keeping bugs off."
  • "After it dries completely it is harmless to humans and deadly to ticks."
  • "This product, when sprayed on my clothes, kept ants, mosquitoes, ticks, etc, away from me."

Cons:

  • "I had a bit of a rash on both of my ankles after our hiking was over."
  • "The Sawyer bug spray did not stop mites from biting me that are invisible to the eye."
  • "However it did not help with the mosquitoes at all."
  • "I applied three times this evening; to the point it's dripping off of me. It doesn't work in Oklahoma."
  • "Although it did not keep me from being eaten alive by the incredible swarm of mosquitoes 🦟 I was pulling weeds along my sidewalk and ended up being attacked by thousands of red ants."
  • "It also didn't repel chiggers off me while pulling weeds and it has not repelled any of the bugs off the cushions of our porch swing glider."
  • "Did as instructed and it wasn't 100% effective."

Application and Safety

Pros:

  • "You can use this spray on the clothing and sneakers, and 3M Ultrathon lotion on ankles and hands."
  • "Apply it as per the instructions because the poison in it is safe once dry, but I wouldn't want it on me when it's wet, or in my lungs if the wind blows the wrong way."
  • "I soaked my clothes in it a few days before hiking and found that mosquitoes and other pests would not touch my clothing."
  • "Seems it's safe for people and other animals."
  • "I use this on my suitcase a few days before I pack."
  • "We were able to use it on our tent before we went on a road trip and we did not have issues with bugs for the entire 9 days we were out."
  • "I have cats so I made sure to apply it somewhere they couldn’t get to until after it was dry."

Cons:

  • "The label is full of warnings about how toxic this is if you get it on your skin."
  • "Given the numerous number of warnings about poison I was expecting at least the pump to work well, but that looks very cheap."
  • "The container leaks a bit when spraying the cloth though, even when I make sure the top is fully on and seated well."
  • "Wore a mask during the process due to wind shift & blowing in my face."
  • "It does have some warnings which I highly recommend you read as this stuff is POTENT and can be very dangerous to use."
  • "It probably works great but it is a neurotoxin for cats and can be lethal."
  • "Do not expose cats to wet permethrin as it affects their Central Nervous System."

Packaging and Dispenser

Pros:

  • "The bottle is fine and holds the liquid great."
  • "I’m going to save my bottle because the only semi serious complaint I’ve seen about this product is that the nozzles sometimes fail."
  • "I've used this, and the aerosol stuff. I like the spray bottle better (this item), since it doesn't produce a bunch of superfine aerosol poison mist when you're applying it."
  • "We treat all of our clothes and shoes once a season and for two adults and two children typically 2-3 bottles will do it for a heavy full coating."
  • "The trigger spray bottle makes it easy to coat surfaces, ensuring thorough coverage evenly."
  • "I would buy again and I would recommend to a friend."
  • "The twist cap also opened easily and didn’t not separate from a safety twist-lock."
