Texture and Material Quality

Pros:

  • "The REAL surface of the steel is a mild pebbly texture, which is true to original cast iron cookware."
  • "This pan is a REAL cast iron pan."
  • "This pan has an enamalled coating on the outside, so the surface that will come in contact with my stove is much smoother and less abrasive than my standard cast-iron pans."
  • "This one is solid. Great cooking that produces great flavor."
  • "A well seasoned cast iron skillet is not hard to keep clean and should last a lifetime or more!"
  • "Nice red caste iron pan that IS INDESTRUCTABLE❤️"
  • "It's durable, easy to clean, but don't use soap or it will rust."

Cons:

  • "I still saw signs of slight rusting and the coating coming off drastically."
  • "After one use, I washed it according to the directions... Now it looks almost like rust even though it was washed, dried and heated dry in the oven."
  • "It immediately bowed in the middle and makes any oil/food run to the outside, not allowing even cooking at all."
  • "Today I noticed a crack by the handle. I didn't expect an iron pan to crack and I am pretty bummed."
  • "Upon opening I noticed the green outside color had multiple chunks missing out of it."
  • "But none of that really matters because we're not even 6 months into owning the thing and it's cracked."
  • "When the pan arrived, the joint where the handle meets the pan was severely cracked and the pan would start to separate from the handle if you held it by the handle."

Cleaning and Maintenance

Pros:

  • "After a little water and maybe some scraping with a plastic scraper and boom! cleaned as a whistle."
  • "So far it’s been easy to clean, even the stuck on eggs."
  • "Do not use soap. Wash with water, dry with paper towel and oil it right after. It looks brand new."
  • "For easy clean up: while still hot, wipe surface with paper towel to remove any remnants of food, for stuck on food-shake some kosher salt in the pan."
  • "I use a very small amount of water and a chain mail scrubber, rinse well, put it on the stove for just a couple of minutes to dry, then coat in 'Cast Iron Oil'."
  • "Cleanup is a breeze - water, a little scraping with a hard scraper - and drying it in a hot oven."
  • "I wash after every use, dry it and heat it on the stove to remove the moisture."

Cons:

  • "I had to scrape and scrape to get it clean then scrub with a sponge and then do it again. Took me 20 min for this one pan."
  • "I followed all the correct procedures and this pan leaves mysterious black residue on the food... Not pleased at all. Something is strange."
  • "I read the reviews and assumed the other buyers were doing it wrong, nope it really does rust quickly."
  • "This last time I reached for the skillet and saw this amount of rust. This is nothing like the skillets I’ve seen before."
  • "What I didn't realize was how rusty it would get after water has been applied to it from washing."
  • "The inside part of stained my fingers just from scrubbing makes me wonder what I’m eating."
  • "I wish it was a little bit easier to clean, but sometimes the food will stick and I have to scrub a little."

Weight and Handling

Pros:

  • "Love the extra handle on opposite side because yes, it's iron and heavy."
  • "The duel spouts make it easy for me to drain excess liquids/oils from my cooking."
  • "Love that it has the handle on the opposite side to help with picking it up."
  • "I love that the weight keeps it in place while I cook (I don't have to hold it in place like a light modern pan)."
  • "Also fairly large and hefty, but workable for anyone not too old, young, or infirm."
  • "It's the last one you'll buy and outlast every other one you have bought in the past."
  • "I love this cast iron skillet. It was perfectly seasoned right out of the box."
